The Dante of DmC is a young man who has no respect for authority or indeed society in general. Dante knows that he is not human, but also that he is not like the demons that have tormented him throughout his life.
Caught between worlds, he feels like an outcast. This split personality has a real impact on gameplay with Dante being able to call upon angel and demon abilities at will. For DmC Capcom has teamed up with UK development studio, Ninja Theory, renown for delivering action titles with compelling characters and narrative coupled with high production values. Dante is a Nephilim, the child of an angel and a demon.
DmC: Devil May Cry is an action-adventure hack and slash video game. Players take on the role of Dante as he uses his powers and weaponry to fight against enemies and navigate the treacherous Limbo. Like previous games in the series, Dante can perform combos by attacking with his sword, Rebellion, and shooting with his twin pistols, Ebony and Ivory. Combat differs slightly from previous games.
There are no Styles, but new attack patterns can be initiated by holding down the left or right trigger buttons.
The game still uses a time-based input mechanic for combos in line with previous Devil May Cry games. High-level-play abilities like Jump Cancel even make a return, as well as Just Charges.
With the use of a soft lock, Dante will often attack whatever is closest in front of him, but the lock-on the game uses is easily overridden by tilting the Left Stick towards a desired target, while also being able to use a Target Switch key for long-range targeting. Another new inclusion to the combat is the use of Input Buffering, which makes it marginally easier to perform continuous attacks.
Orbs are once again rewarded for dispatching enemies. It tells the story of what happens to Vergil after his battle with Dante. As he rails against his failure, he succumbs to his injuries and collapses, falling into Hell. All of these moves can be used in conjunction with each other to perform massive combos, which are ranked based on the damage the player makes. When enough power has been gathered, Dante can activate Devil Trigger mode, which slows down time around him and levitates enemies into the air, allowing him to perform much stronger attacks Survive Limbo — The world of Limbo is a living and breathing entity, out to kill Dante.
